Action Plan

THE FIRST FIVE-YEAR PROGRAM (2010 – 2014)
The Five-year program of the Afro-Arab Institute for Culture and Strategic Studies is divided into four major components. Each component contains number of priority areas that could be further translated into concrete actions.
COMPONENT I: AFRO-ARAB CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT
PRIORITY AREAS:
1.1 Promote cultural exchanges: organize Afro-Arab Cultural weeks, festivals, exchange of cultural troops, exhibitions of books, arts, etc.
1.2 Enhance knowledge on each other’s realities: translate and disseminate African and Arab manuscripts, literatures, publications, monographs, annual reports.
1.3 Facilitate inter-regional dialogue: organize annual Meetings of Afro-Arab Cultural Experts/Afro-Arab Cultural Congress.
1.4 Initiate the development of Afro-Arab cultural markets: facilitate the establishment of Afro-Arab museums and promotion of joint publications.
1.5 Assist national efforts: provide technical/financial assistance to African and Arab countries in support of national efforts to develop cultural values.
1.6 Encourage institutions and people of culture: award prizes, medals and certificates of recognition to prominent Arab and African men of culture and competitors in artistic and cultural domain.
1.7 Encourage cultural interactions: organize Afro-Arab games, sport tournaments.
1.8 Encourage Afro-Arab joint activities: assist joint curriculum development and twining arrangements, joint production of cinema and publication of annual journals.
COMPONENT II. STUDIES AND RESEARCHES ON STRATEGIC PROBLEMS OF AFRO-ARAB COOPERATION
PRIORITY AREAS:
2.1 Research and study on global/regional strategic issues: globalisation, under development, immigration, ethnic and sartorial violence, identify, culture and national concern regional conflicts, historical barriers.
2.2 Consultancy: policy advice to AU, LAS and other regional organizations and national governments in the Afro-Arab regions.
2.3 Publication and dissemination: publication and dissemination of research outputs.
COMPONENT III. COORDINATION, REPRESENTATION, ADVOCACY AND NETWORKING,
PRIORITY AREAS:
3.1 Coordination and follow up of Activities of Afro-Arab Institutions: serve as secretariat to the Afro-Arab Development Forum.
3.2 Participation at regional and international meetings: promote interest of Africa and Arab regions at relevant international and regional forums such as UNSECO.
3.3 Networking: maintain close working relations with national, regional and global institutes perusing similar objectives.
3.4 Lobbying and Advocacy: assist African and Arab countries recover their cultural assets.
COMPONENT IV. INSTITUTIONAL TRANSFORMATION AND CAPACITY BUILDING
PRIORITY AREAS:
4.1 Transforming the Afro-Arab Cultural Institute into an Afro-Arab Institute for Culture and Strategic Studies: practical steps to transfer assets obligations, programs, staff and documents.
4.2 Human and material resources: staff recruitment, procurement of equipment and office furniture, supplies.
4.3 Management Information system: studies, policies and guidelines.
4.4 Database development: documentation of Africa and Arab cultural values, experts.
4.5 Staff Development: training, exchange visits.
4.6 Monitoring and Evaluation system: formats, guidelines etc.
4.7 Promotional activities: publication of brochures, leaflets, production of promotional materials and website management.
